Beginners Guide To Riding Downtown

Getting on a bike after not riding for years can be a bit intimidating.It’s more challenging when you add pedestrians, cars, and cycling etiquette to the mix.

That’s why we’ve listed some pointers to reduce your stress on your first few rides so you can enjoy the euphoric feeling of cycling.

    • Bike lanes are your best friend: It’s all about planning ahead! Vancouver has implemented many protected bike lanes throughout downtown.     • Cycling Etiquette: Obey traffic lights, ride in the direction of traffic, do not pass in intersections, signal when turning, and stay off sidewalks.
    • Hand signals: Hand signals are very important to interact with others. Make sure you are clear, timely, and visible with your signals. The images below are depicted from behind the bicyclist.
