Mobi Member Profile: Meet Patrick

Meet Patrick Nangle, Modo's CEO since July 2016.

Patrick originally came to Vancouver to study international business at UBC and fell in love with the city, vowing to return and live here one day. He has lived in five countries including 11 years in Switzerland in the meantime, and still rank Vancouver as his favourite place in the world.

About Modo
Modo is a two-way carsharing co-operative based in Vancouver, BC. With a diverse and growing fleet in the Lower Mainland, Greater Victoria and Nanaimo, Modo offers members access to 550 cars, trucks, hybrids, EVs and more. Founded in Vancouver's West End in 1997, Modo was the first carsharing of its kind in North America - a true Vancouver original.

We asked him a few questions about his Mobi by Shaw Go experience. Here are his responses:

Why did you decide to Mobi around town?
I’ve used bike sharing in other cities and really like the convenience and ease of use. Cycling and bike sharing, like car sharing, are essential parts of the spectrum of mobility solutions that make our cities more livable and sustainable.

Where was your first Mobi ride to?
My first Mobi ride was a quick, mid-day tour around the Stanley Park seawall. Its just so easy to step out of my office, unlock a Mobi and get moving. It’s a good time-out in the middle of the day and I hope to do that regularly.

What is your favourite bike route to take on a Mobi?
Definitely around Stanley Park, though the route from my office over to see the Modo Board Chair at the Vancity HQ allows a stunning ride around the end of False Creek.

Are you a regular bike commuter?
I commute into my downtown office by bus each day so don’t have my own bike available during the workday. That’s what makes having access to Mobi bikes such a good fit for me. I augment transit with a Mobi bike for shorter distances and a Modo vehicle to cover longer distances.

Do you have a funny or interesting biking story?
A few years ago I did an adventure trip to Peru with my family. That included a day cycling at 4,000m. I thought I was in decent condition at the time but found even the slightest climb a challenge. Happily, the views were outstanding and the very fast and picturesque descent that followed made it all worthwhile.
