Founding Members Portrait Series (1 of 10)

Portrait #1 Neil Salmond

Over the past few weeks we’ve been absolutely thrilled to see Founding Members riding around our city, trying Vancouver’s first bike share program!

With the shared excitement in the air, we reached out to 10 Founding Members to help answer why they’ve decided to Mobi around town.

Starting today, we’re kick starting our countdown to the end of our Founding Member sale. We will be posting profiles daily, and sharing with you the reasons why our community is excited to have bike share in Vancouver, as much as we are!

Without further ado, we now introduce our first Founding Member, Neil Salmond.

Why are you a founding member of Mobi?

I've used bikeshare in London and Montreal and have followed the long planning process for Vancouver. I'm very excited to add it to my set of transport options. Living in the West End and with friends in Burnaby and New West, I'll probably Mobi to the Skytrain now instead of taking the slow community shuttle round.

Why do you love to ride?

Cycling is fun, more reliable than the pass-up buses, more direct than the bus, easier and faster than walking. Obviously massively cheaper than owning, fuelling, parking and repairing a car.

Where are you going to go on your first ride?

The best thing about bike-share is the one-way trips. At the moment if it's raining for my morning commute, I take the bus and therefore have to take the bus back. But very few days does it actually rain all day from 8am to 6pm. With bike-share I can bike home from work if the rain stops. I expect that will be my first and most frequent use.
(Also riding to the pub for nights when I know I'll be in no state to ride back!)
